Announcements for the week of March 24, 2013

Maundy Thursday, March 28 Before we can understand the miracle of Easter, we first must reflect upon the pain and agony of the cross. Maundy Thursday Service is a time where we remember Jesus’ gift of Holy Communion and also his betrayal on the night before he was crucified. It is one of the more beautiful and powerful services that Asbury has each year. Make plans to attend this special worship service at 6:oo pm. Childcare will be available for children ages 4 and under.

On Easter Sunday we will have two IDENTICAL services, the first at 9:00 a.m. and the second at 10:40 a.m.  Make plans to be with us, and bring a friend to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord!

Asbury Playschool registration (for kids ages 2 to pre-K) is open to all Asbury Church members and regular attenders. Contact Cindy McDonald for more information @ 601-582-4686.

Confirmation Classes to Start – Pastor Andy and Jeff, our student minis er, will be starting Confirmation Classes for 7th & 8th graders in April. Letters will be going out to students and parents. If you do not receive a letter, but are interested in your child taking this class, please contact Andy or Jeff at the church office (601-545-3006).

NEW TEXTING PROGRAM We’re trying to improve our communication here at Asbury! We now can send mass text messages from the church and from specific church ministries. To sign up for general church messages, please text the word “Asbury” to 601-863-8112 and hit send!

COLLEGE & YOUNG ADULTS Asbury has a thriving College & Young Adult ministry led by Brian Hinnant. This group meets weekly at 7:30 pm on Sunday nights at the Hinnant’s home (19 Popcorn Point, Trailwood West). They participate in a variety of small group projects, attend the annual Passion Conference, have Bible study and so much more. Contact Brian at brian@asburypetal.com.

STUDENT LIFE @ COVENANT COLLEGE is May 27-31. $60 deposit is due NOW. Limited number of spots still available. Speaker is Ed Newton. Worship leader is the band Rush of Fools!

2013 Grads—We need photos of all our upcoming high school and college graduates! High school: we want lots of pictures (digital, please)—from childhood to senior portrait—to include in our review. College: A current picture or senior/graduation portrait. Please get them to Jeff West or the church office by April 30th! The Baccalaureate breakfast and service will be on Sunday, May 5th!!

BASECAMP 2013—Make plans to be a part of BaseCamp this summer! Mark your calendar for June 19-23! We need ADULT volunteers to work with student crews and leaders for day camps and other areas. Talk to Brian Hinnant if you can help. Be Salt & Light at BaseCamp!

Prayer Concerns for the week of March 24, 2013

Individuals struggling with illnesses and other concerns:

Andrew Cross, the 21/2-year-old cousin of Jennifer, Evan and Lila Ann Fairchild. Andrew is undergoing chemo for Leukemia.

Horace Gaupp, Jay Cooley’s step-dad, who is in ICU. He is a dialysis patient and has a blockage in his heart.

Carl Stephen’s sister-in-law who was hospitalized recently.

Liz Brock, whose cancer has spread to her liver and who has begun an aggressive chemo treatment.

Melinda Brown, Petal Kindergarten assistant, who has liver cancer and current treatment is not working. She will start another treatment soon.

Becky Owens, daughter-in-law of Pat & Judi Milligan, who is having serious vision problems and can no longer drive.

All those in Oak Grove, Hattiesburg and Petal affected by the tornado.

Shane Stanford, Asbury’s founding pastor, who is undergoing special treatments for his liver.

Bridget Smith, cousin of Leslie Powell, who was diagnosed 2 years ago with lung cancer, went into remission, but now the cancer has spread to her brain.

Don Gable, friend of Patrice Seal, who is having heart issues.

Niece and nephew of Tom Richards who both have colon cancer and are in chemo. Surgery scheduled for January.

Jeff West’s grandfather, who has ongoing health problems.

Those in our congregation who are looking for work.

Unspoken requests: Please pray for individuals and families who are struggling with health issues, addiction, broken relationships, health problems, or financial crises.

Announcements for the week of March 17, 2013

We’ll have an Easter egg hunt on Palm Sunday, March 24th. Parents: Please provide 1 dozen pre-filled Easter eggs per child (4th grade and under) for this event. You can leave these in the Children’s building. There will also be family games and lots of fun following the picnic that day! Please plan to attend!
